Henk van Ess is a speaker, writer, investigative journalist, internet trainer and internet consultant for radio, TV and newspapers. He trained over 1000 professionals in the practical and critical use of information technology and is deeply involved in worldwide training of news media. He helped reporters from radio, tv and newspapers in Europe, Canada and the US to learn intelligent internet research with the newest tools and tricks. Henk teaches internet research & digital journalism at the Universiteit van Amsterdam, the Erasmusuniversiteit in Rotterdam and the Katholieke Hogeschool in Mechelen (Belgium) and is board member of the Dutch-Flemish association of investigating journalists VVOJ. He is often quoted in Dutch media.Since 2006, Van Ess is also consultant for companies who need a second opinion in IT-projects. Van Ess develops also internet products for companies in The Netherlands and the US, mainly for media.Van Ess is patron of DMOZ.NL, Cave Your Trolls and member of several think tanks for new internet concepts, new open source software and Web 2.0 applications. He is the former head of internet at www.ad.nl, the second newspaper in The Netherlands and the third news site. As a hobby, he publishes two websites about internet research, www.voelspriet.nl (Dutch), quoted on the official Google Blog under ‘What We’re Reading’ and www.searchbistro.com (English).
