Floor (25): Coping With Funny Nails

THE IDEA:
When I was fourteen years old my nails started to look a little weird. They became painful and it seemed like they could fall of any moment.

The doctor did not know what it was and after a few visits to different kinds of skin doctors I was diagnosed with psoriasis (psoriatic nail disease). Psoriasis is a chronicle skin disease which is responsible for a fast growth of the epidermis. Cells in the outer layer of the skin divide themselves faster than normal which causes red scaly patches on the skin. Approximately 2 or 3 percent of the world population is effected by this disease, which is heritable. In my case the disease limits itself to my nails. This is quite unique, since the disease is known to effect places like elbows, skull hands and knees.

This weblog describes my experiences of living with psoriasis and specifically with psoriasis in the finger nails. How does it look and what does it feel like? And more important: how is my daily life effected by the visible manifestation of psoriasis? How do people react to it and how I have learned to hide it. It will be full of tips and tricks, advice and experience.Biography:
